Big Gap

BIG GAP (2002)
47x35x10 cm

A broken PC Motherboard is installed in an old gilt frame. The gap grows in the darkness (e.g. viewers can cast a shadow upon the light sensor) and shows a LCD screen.
The gap decreases in the light and hides the inside of the gap.
The LCD screen has mostly random characters but occasionally recognizable strings of letters will emerge and the sculpture will be constructing complete sentences.
A solid-state speech storage chip randomly makes sound recordings and plays back.
A small fan blows narrow bands of papier and LEDs illuminate inside of the gap.

The wounded motherboard would communicate and build up a relationship to the viewer.
